How to Install Postman on Ubuntu 20.04

Postman is one of the popular API development platform. It is useful for building and manage your API development environment, from designing to publishing and testing. Currently, the Postman Chrome apps has been deprecated. In this tutorial we will show you how to install Postman on Ubuntu 20.04 system.

Prerequisite#

Ensure that you are logged in as root or user with sudo privileges:

Install Postman#

We will use the Snappy package system to install the Postman. Postman snap package is distributed and maintained by the developers of Postman.

Open terminal on your system and run the following command:

sudo snap install postman

Once the installation process will complete, it will show the success message as following:

postman 7.30.1 from Postman, Inc. (postman-inc✓) installed

It may take sometime, depends on your speed of internet connection.

The Postman snap package will be automatically update in the background when the new version is available.

Start Postman#

To launch the Postman, click on Activities and search for “Postman” and click on the postman icon to launch the application.

On the first launch of the Postman application, a window will open and ask you to enter the login details or create a new account.

By creating account you can manage your work in workspace, take backups and synchronize your data across multiple devices. You also can skip the login by clicking on “Skip signing in and take me straight to the app”.

For example, we will do a test of get request using online test api and receive the JSON response from the server.

Open a new tab in Postman, keep GET as request type and enter https://jsonplaceholder.typicode.com/users url and click on the SEND button. The response will be return a JSON object containing an array of users.
